Kitchen and First Floor Renovation at Stately Swampscott Home
Wolfe Design Build completed the major renovation of this stately Swampscott home in early 2022. Our client’s goal was to create an expansive custom chef’s kitchen where their multigenerational family can gather together. Wolfe Design Build designed the new spaces and carried out the construction of this 5-month project.
The scope of the project included removing a centrally located load-bearing wall and installing a flush steel beam between the existing kitchen and family room to create an oversized 22’ by 22’ space. This new open space creates a bright and welcoming environment for our clients to enjoy with many family members and friends. In addition to the kitchen, the project included a redesigned mudroom, powder room and bar/office area.
The kitchen design features include: dual blue custom cabinets by Massachusetts company Sundance Woodworking; an oversized island with an 18” fireclay Rohl prep sink; perimeter cabinets with a 33” Rohl shaker single bowl farm sink that overlooks the triple casement windows; and a 48” Wolf gas range with pull out spice racks hidden on either side of the massive range hood. Behind the range is a custom inlay glass backsplash installed by our in-house master tile setter complete with a Descanso pot filler. On the other side of the kitchen, you will find the paneled dual-column refrigerator and freezer by Sub-Zero. The new dining area has a custom-built banquet and bookcase with seating for all. To bring more natural light into the space we installed French doors that open to a new bluestone patio.
Off the kitchen is the bar which includes custom cabinets for barware, an undercounter beverage refrigerator, a built-in hutch for overflow kitchen gadgets, and a newly designed desk area. Adjacent to the bar is the mudroom which has all the storage a big family needs and a bench seat that doubles as a dog’s perch for their beloved puppy, Zoe.
The powder room is accessed through a new pocket door and has a custom floor-to-ceiling glass mosaic wall and a floating porcelain sink with wall hung faucets. The heated tile floors continue from the mudroom into the new powder room as well.
