Attic transformation in Melrose

About the project

Project Scope:

  • Reimagined existing walk-up attic into a primary suite, complete with:

    • Bedroom

    • Bathroom

    • Walk-in closet

    • Large landing area that can be used as a home office or extra storage

This is a remarkable attic transformation in Melrose. Our clients needed another bedroom and bathroom for their growing family. They had an existing walk-up attic that was converted to a new primary bedroom, bathroom and closet.

The design was completed by Bessette Architecture & Design, LLC, in Melrose, and Wolfe Design Build managed the construction.

The design included removing parts of the existing roof and replacing with two dormers. Dormers allow for higher ceilings, additional windows, and adds architectural style. We also rebuilt the stairs to bring them up to code.

The new bathroom boasts double sinks, a walk-in shower, heated tile floors, and exquisite finishes. Laura worked with our client to select all of the finishes including: tile, lighting, paint colors, cabinet hardware, vanity, etc.

Adjacent to the bathroom is a large walk-in closet. In the main primary bedroom there are three large windows, reclaimed wood beams (reused from the original wood flooring), and a mini-split heat/cooling unit in the ceiling. Laura again worked with our client to select the paint color, lighting and ceiling fan. The floors are a white oak with a natural polyurethane finish.

At the top of the stairs, there is a large landing area that can be used as extra storage or a home office.
