Laura’s favorite sink - the farmhouse.

We asked Laura, our in-house designer, for her thoughts on her favorite sink - the farmhouse.

"When designing a kitchen, one of the first things that I think about is the flow of the kitchen, particularly the placement of the sink. My eye is always drawn to the sink and naturally I love to select one that aesthetically makes a statement. And is there a better statement than a beautiful farmhouse sink? A farmhouse sink is set deep in the cabinet with only the front facing side exposed. I feel that a farmhouse sink really elevates the overall look and feel of a kitchen.

Most people probably think of white when they think of a farmhouse sink and one of our favorites is the Shaws Original by Rohl. It's handmade of heavy-duty fireclay, is timeless, and works in traditional, transitional and contemporary kitchens.

Another sink that we love is the Kohler Whitehaven, but do not let the name fool you…due to the popularity of this sink, it’s now available in colors like blue, green, and gray for a more daring client.

And for those that like the look of a farmhouse sink but might be more budget conscious, stainless steel farmhouse sinks are regaining popularity. These are typically available in either a flat apron or a curved front.

Whether fireclay (Shaws Original), enamel cast iron (Kohler Whitehaven), stainless steel or even concrete, farmhouse sinks are a favorite of mine. I am still waiting for that client who comes along that wants to use my dream sinks…a micro-hammered antique copper farmhouse sink."
