2023 Kitchen Design Trends

The start of a new year means a refocus on what is trending for the year ahead. In kitchen design, we are noticing some exciting new ideas hitting the design world.

Charging Drawers and Smart Appliance - Some new technology trends we are seeing is the use of charging drawers and smart appliances. We’ve installed a few drawers where phones and tablets can be hidden in a drawer while charging. Hiding electrical outlets continues to be popular and we have incorporated many in our designs.

Mixing metals is also a hot idea right now – think bronze hardware with a polished nickel faucet. We recently completed a kitchen renovation in Swampscott and our client chose black pendant lights above the sink and brass pendant lights above the island. See how we have mixed metals in this Swampscott kitchen.

Painted islands are also popular this year and we have had several clients opt to paint (or even tile) their island. Our clients in Marblehead put a gorgeous blue tile on the front part of the island and it makes such a great design impact! See more photos of the tiled island in this Swampscott kitchen.

Open Concept Kitchen - A not so new trend that appears to be sticking is the open concept kitchen. Clients are still interested in a kitchen space that is open to a living room area. We see this a lot in the older homes we work in. Gone are the small, separate rooms. We all spend a lot of time in our kitchens so it only makes sense to have the space function as a living area as well.

Large, Oversized Islands - Formal dining rooms are being used less and less, and we are seeing a trend in large, oversized islands that double as an eating area for families. We installed a huge island in a home in Marblehead last year and our clients say they eat every meal there. See more photos of this oversized island we installed in Marblehead.

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, 2023 - In terms of color, Benjamin Moore’s color of the year is “raspberry blush.” It’s a bold mix of red and orange and is what they say is the “definition of charismatic color.”

As we begin to design new kitchens, we listen to what our clients want and use their inspirational images to start the design process. It’s an awesome collaboration and we can’t wait to share our 2023 kitchens with you!
